Could some one explain real quick exactly what autocross is I have heard many different things.

clubs. SCCA is the big one. NASA does some autocrosses too, i think. Plus local and national car-specific clubs (like BMW, Z-car, etc) put on autocrosses too.

As long as you have insurance, safety personnel, a good parking lot, and great organizers anyone can put on an autocross or Solo2.

CivicSiRacer does. My best finish was 2nd place in H-stock (my car is a '92 civic vx), and a couple 3rds. In STS, my car isn't very well prepared (i.e. no swaybars yet, mostly stock bushings, no camber adjustment, only 90hp ) and I've managed a 6th place out of about 20-23 cars, so thats not too bad.

I won the street tire class at last sunday's autocross for the ODR SCCA club. 88 Civic DX, slipping clutch, stock everything except tires, 253k miles.
