Default Rules about saving seats in theaters

As far as I can remember there has never been a limit on the number of seats a person can save for the rest of the group.

So here is what happened today.

Me, my coworker and my gf got to the theater early and saved 7 seats for the rest of the group.

I was at one end my gf 5 seats down and my co-worker 2 seats down.

So this guy one row down was expecting to sit in the middle but those seats were taken then he asks if the seats I was saving were saved. I tell him yes all these are saved.

Then he goes you can't save 7 seats. I ignore him and the says that's ridiculous. So I look at him and tell him if you want the good seats you show up early. My gf has been waiting in line for 30min and we showed up 25mins into her wait. Then he give me a look like he is hard yo. I just laugh and ignore him.

So he just sits down in front and keeps making comments about how it's not right, this and that. So turns out he was with his gf and he wanted to show off or something.

He is lucky he was talking to me and not my co-worker. He is 6'4" 275lbs of basically pure muscle. His arms are as thick as my legs (if not thicker) and his legs are thick as my arms. Not only that he isn't easy reason when he gets pissed.

So did I do anything wrong?

if you were saving the 7 seats by yourself then thats wrong. but you have 2 other ppl with you. there's no rule against saving seats.

I forgot to add the guy kept being a smart ass. Other people would come up and ask me if the seats were saved and he would turn around and say yes he is saving all 7 seats. Well these two people were only looking for 2 seats for I look right at him and said, "Yes the seats to my right, all 7 of them are saved but the seats to my leat are all free."

He stop talking shit at that point.

there is no rules about how many seats a single person can save.

I've seen a person save 15 seats. He got there first fair and square.
