I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and choices, so on and so forth. But the way I look at things is what would be good for a country/society or some global level. We're all mankind. We're all human. We all make the same mistakes, and we all learn the same leasons.

With that said, I think we, as a society, should try and make things better, but people arn't realizing what really is better.

advanced technology is a great convenience, but is it absolutely nessisary? Not exactly. But with society pushing these advancements upon us, and making it more and more difficult to live without them, it makes it not an improvement, but in actuallity, its detrimental.

Now, as far as I'm concerned with rap (and this is a general statement), they have this desire to be/act hard, and to be tough and to kill them all, etc etc. Choose your meathod of hate, it still remains. And because of it, it forms a wedge that keeps people from accepting one another, and utimately, coming togeather.

thing is, it isn't just rap. Rock has fallin to a similar fate.

But lately it seems the industry has taken a shift, as I've noticed alot of rock has gone the way of "pussy" for lack of a better term.

Music is about communication, and communication should be about love, acceptance, understanding, and moving on. Without these things, humanity is damned to repition, because lets face it; music means alot to alot of people.

big deal, I mispelled a word

That message may be bullshit to you, but that's their life. Some music doesn't even have a message.
and music without a message is not music. Music is the great communication. It gives people hope, and something they can associate with. But at the same time, if that association is negative (such the case with said "typical rap"), then whats the point?

Lots of people pride things that are detrimental, this is way down low on that list.
says who? I think music has more to do with life than we think. Its math put to sound, and its so universal, yet at the same time, so esoteric.

I don't think I did. I could have sworn you were calling it cRap music. All those people that say rap music is detrimental to our youth, yadda yadda yadda, they don't like rap music...period.
Thats not true. Violence on TV and in films can, to some point, be just as detrimental. Animated violence, not so much. The violence I mean is the realistic shit. Whats the point?

And you mean to tell me that no white people in texas live in the ghetto?
texas is a big state. It's best broken down by region. South texas is much different than east texas, which is different than north texas, etc.

But saying no white people would be stupid. Saying maybe 5-10% of the ghetto is white, on the other hand, is not. That is my point.

Moraly it may not be the same but it still applies either way...any relationship is still a relationship regardless on what level it may be.
true enough

Web meetings bad huh? well I know I have met a good number of people on this board as well as many other boards I frequent. I have made some very good friends this way.....its the progression of a society.

We meet through common interest and sharing ideas back and forth...from these ideas we form judgements about the other person and eventually it develops into friendships....no matter how much you want to deny it, it happens to all of us.
I dunno, its one of my ideas in the works. I have this theory (nothing new) that people all bounce around and all these series of accidents arn't accidents at all. Like I said, no new theory, but throwing net meeting into this kinda shuffles up people.

Net meeting isn't nessisaryily a bad thing tho. I've known people to click, etc. This is something, that of course, will happen.

But take for example my sister. She met her present girlfriend over the net (yes, she's a dyke ), and they've been togeather for years now, and I assume they're happy. But due to her happyness, she live in New Hampshire, seperate from a family she needs. Shes making alot of bad choices in her life, and I think she would have been better off at home. But its all relitive, I guess.

What I don't understand is why it is perfectly accepted when commercialized mainstream rap music has songs that blatently preach hate.....hate against other ethnic groups, hate against each other, hate against police, etc. If Blink 182 or N'Sync wrote a song talking about how much they hate some group, there would be such a huge uproar, and you would never hear of them again.

White people that think they are black piss me off to no end. I was at 6 Flags last weekend with my girlfriend and her friend and I was like "Goddam there is a lot of white trash here, they all act like they are black" and then her black friend (who is like a young Bernie Mack(sp?) was like "Goddam, yo, I ****ing hate dat shit!!" So apparently black people get pissed when white people act like that.

The thing that pisses me off about these rap liking "Thugs" is they constantly try and be hard asses all the time. Acting like assholes and trying to start fights with people and shit all the time. Give it up, your just a pussy ass who thinks they are ghetto because the music tells you about it.
agreed to the infinate

Apples and oranges. I fix up hondas because honda makes affordable/economic/relable vehivles, and I like to stand out from the crowd. It's not because I think I'm asian.

why don't you go back to fixing up your Big AMERICAN Trucks with the big fog lights on top of the roof of your car...same thing...different people have different taste in things...let them do what they feel like doing...
The reason I'm against trucks and SUVs is they use too much natural reasources, and I have no need for either one. I don't haul things, and I'm not a soccer mom who outgrew her minivan.

I agree people should do how they feel, but If a man feels like beating his wife, is that cool? I think people should do as they feel so long as they aren't detrimental.

But regardless of all that, there are many good points brought up on both sides of the arguments.

But I think there's a solution. Mainstream Rap with a positive message

So....in order for it to be music it has to have a message....what about instrumental music?

:slap:

And the part about the negative message depends on your point of view. If you grew up in the ghetto, live in the ghetto, it's not negative to you. If anything it could be positive, by getting the message out of what life really is like in the inner city. People from suburbia think it's negative because they've never had to deal with any of that, they would rather just ignore it and not hear about it than try and do something about it.

come on, man. Don't be a dumbass. I'm trying to be serious here, and you say this?

you're missing my point on whats negative and whats positive. If rap was more about rising above the stereotype, rising out of the gutter, and rising to new hights (which, yes, some of it is), then that would be one thing. But thats not the case.

If anything it could be positive, by getting the message out of what life really is like in the inner city. People from suburbia think it's negative because they've never had to deal with any of that, they would rather just ignore it and not hear about it than try and do something about it.
but we already know whats up with the inner city. The black community has been showing us this for the past 20 years. Time to move on and rise above it all.

Come on man, learn when shit's a joke :chuckles:

And just fyi, most of rap/hip hop IS about rising above stereotypes, and has a positive message....it's just not heard because they are not in the mainstream...you should check out some underground hip hop.

you're missing the point again. I know underground is where its at, but does the people who watch MTV, BET, VH1, etc all know this?
