umm perhaps... my cuz and buddy always bring up how clinton screwed us by cutting funds for the military.. and basically im educating myself on where the money did go so i can defend my argument.. justification.. i do know he did it for a purpose, one being we just didnt need it there..

 

The problem is that you're barking up the wrong tree. It was George H. W. Bush who made the Peace Dividend campaign promise. There were a lot of base closings and reductions in veterans' benefits during the 90s, but those came from GOP-sponsored bills. Remember that it's Congress that funds the military, not the President.

I don't think that you'll find much change in the overall defense budget though. The money that came out of the pockets of our servicemen went into the pockets of defense contractors...and their shareholders.

 

well thats just it.. i am looking for info on all that so i can educate my naive buddies... as far as they know, "clinton ripped our legs out from under us by cutting our military"... that's thier whole argument..

 

Well...the problem with their argument is that it's a falsehood. Knowing that, you can demand proof. Let them knock themselves trying to prove something they can't. When they find nothing to support their prejudice, they'll learn.
