We are "defending" ourselfs by going to our neighbors and saying "I think you're going to do something, so I'll act first." Thats not defense.
I think the massive amounts of money our government is spending could be put to better things, IE REAL economic growth stimuli, education, retirement (thanks, enron). Instead, we're putting ourselfs in massive debt. All for what?
I think we should take a neutral stance at things. Retaliation only brings more pain. But hey, thats just my opinion.

The Defense Budget doesn't all go to the military genius...it goes to defending things like national monuments. But since we blew the WTC up ourselves, that's not a problem
We already went down the neutral road. It ended abruptly when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the British were about a year from being invaded by the Germans.

I hold a Masters degree in psychology, am a professional psychotherapist in practice, and working on my Doctorate.
Believe me when I tell you that no matter what someone claims is their motive for doing something, when personal and political gain are part of the outcome, it is personal and political gain that must be considered as the major driving force behind a person's choice or behavior.
The events that transpired since Bush was elected, from 9/11 to the current war fulfill conservative republican interests too perfectly to be explained away as pure coincidence. The statistical probability that this all happened without intervention is zero. The statistical probability that there is more going on here than coincidence, %100. Exactly what and to what extent, I'm not sure.
Much of human behavior is predictable within a certain level of probability. Before Bush even announced his intentions to run for president, I predicted 4 things would transpire if he were elected.
#1 slowed economic growth which would be unsuccessfully countered with massive tax cuts for the extremely wealthy.
#2 A rise in unemployment and little or no job creation.
#3 A war with Iraq.
#4 The criminalization of abortion.
My predictions were based on the conservative republican vision and consistent with what has always occured under republican leadership over the last 20 years. Thus far, I'm 3 for 4. However, #4 will likely only occur if bush ie re-elected.
Bush is only a puppet for those who really run this country behind the scene. It sounds like the X files, but when politics and personal financial gain are involved TRUST NOBODY.

2. with a slow economy, you get a rise in unemployment, etc. that's no surprise. not to mention that there are analysts saying that the economy hasn't been as bad as originally perceived.
3. funny how "liberals" say nothing about Clinton's decision to send troops to bosnia, and other decisions of the like. i suppose he really had no choice.
open your eyes a little and read this:

i don't remember any massive protests, or hollywood being in an uproar. could it be that if Clinton, or someone of the like, were making the decision to attack iraq, things would be different? would all these conspiracy theories still exist?
4. abortion is immoral, so how is this a bad thing?
i love how "liberals" claim to be so open-minded, yet they're some of the most close-minded people i've ever met.

As for the dropped economy, I'd blame the Florida inccident during the '00 election before Clinton. The system failed, and because of it, people started to lose faith.

oh, about this:
when the whole bosnia thing went down, we were not in the opening phases of a never-ending war (against terror). Nor were we attacking some scapegoat because we couldn't catch the first guy who flung us into the whole mess to begin with.
you're comparing apples and oranges. May as well throw in something WWII and the Civil War.
Ever since 9-11, things have changed. It's a big coincidence, part of some great plan by some higher power, and if you choose to ignore the coincidence, fine. Hell, look at the number. That alone tells you danger. The way I see it, the world hasn't changed. It's just as scandilous now as it always has been. Thats mankind for you. But the difference today is the mass media, with it's adverse effects on todays youth, and how they uncover things, and let the hypocrisy be known even more-so than the past. These things are accumulating along with others, and one day someone up there's gonna say "enough is enough."
I guess its fear of the end that motivates me against this war more than anything. It's clear as day. But if everythings still fine and dandy past 2012, I think the world will be around longer.
sorry bout the tangents h:

And when that was going on the economy had already started its downward slide...while Clinton was still in office and Bush was the President Elect!

The economy began to dive when Bush was president elect.
This due to the fact that people knew what Bush was about and what he would do. Not only based on his campaign, but on prior republican actions.
1. No more balance budget.
2. A 760 Billion dollar tax cut, 90% of which goes to the wealthiest 5% of our population.
Remember when dubbya sent out his tax cut checks? The year before when I filed my taxes, I owed $170 to the govt. The year I received his $300 check, then filed my taxes, I had to pay the govt $470. He took the money right back. I din't get a tax cut. I don't know many people who did. Where did the money go?People like Gates and Dell recieved millions of dollars in tax cuts.
Consumer spending is down. However, "Big Ticket" item sales in January 2003 was the highest in 11 years. How does this happen? Rather than investing their windfall tax cuts, the insanely wealthy went out and purchased yacts. How does this help America and the working people?
3. Republicans always seem to start wars. Nom, Korea, Gulf and now opperation oil.

Odysseus...you are basing everything on 1/2 truths.
If the economy began to dive when Bush was President Elect that was on Clinton's watch...He chose to pardon people to the highest bidder instead of caring for the economy. I am sure the dot-com bust was because of the fear that Bush might get elected.
A "big ticket item" also constitutes cars and houses. With mortgage rates so low many people were buying homes...I did and I am not in the top 10% income bracket yet. Many other people did to that are not the uber-wealthy. And with Ford and GM offering 0% financing deals a lot of middle class Americans went out and bought cars...why? Because that was the time to do it. How many of the top 10% of earners buy GM or Ford vehicles? Not many...they drive BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus'.
As for starting wars Vietnam was started by the North Vietnamese...we originally went in to assist as advisors a friendly non-Comunist government against the aggression of a Communist one.
The Korean War was started when the Communist North Korean army invaded South Korea where we had troops stationed after WWII had ended. Like Vietnam we were defending a non-Communist government against the aggressions of a Communist invader.
Gulf War I started after Iraq invaded Kuwait and Saudi Arabia asked for assistance out of the fear that they were next on Iraqs radar screen. The US then lead a coalition against Iraq to get them out of Kuwait...after Iraq had invaded it!
Gulf War II started as a result of Iraq's inability to relinquish WMD. We are the aggressors in this war because if we are not we could be the victims. And the fact that you call it operation oil proves that you base your opinions on conspiracy theories and not actual fact.
So you were 1/4 in wars that Republicans started...unless of course Communist North Korea, Communist North Vietnam, and Saddam Hussein are all closet Republicans.
When you make an equal and balanced tax cut those that pay the most taxes get the biggest break. Sorry that that is the fair way of doing things.

I don't care if Clinton, Bush, JFK, or Abe Lincoln is invading Iraq. It's still not our place to make a call on others lives, and others standards. Just because they're "lower" than our own doesn't make them any less right. Besides, :sarcastic: I'm sure Saddam is making the Iraqi people stay where they are.
if they didn't want to live there, it's not like they can't get away.
by who's standards. Who is to judge whats immoral? Man? Ha!
I beleive in pro-choice, not because I would suggest to a loved one that they would need an abortion. Hell, I'm against it as much as anyone. But regardless of it being legal or not, people will carry them out. Would you rather they be done safely and professionally? Or maybe put more risk on the line?
Same reasons I beleive drugs and prostitution should be legal. Take them off the black market, thus having less organized criminal activity.
