these arent judged solely by miles driven

they look at temps and speeds (stop and go vs constant velocity) as well

none of them are 100% accurate, but they do give you a good idea.

i'd recommend a set oil change interval over using the computer gauge any day, but thats just me

most of them actually use fuel consumption.

it sort of makes sense a lot of stop and go will decrease mpg as will hard driving like track days which are two examples of what's considered to be harsh conditions for engines.

in layman's term..
does that i mean i can somewhat trust the car's computer then?

i'm thinking to get the oil change by 20-30% anyways

ask me if i follow the BMW advice :chuckles:

I've been halving the interval that is recommended by BMW. BMW recommends about 15K per change. I've been changing the oil on the 330i since we bought it at 7000-7500mile intervals. Car has 170K now and the engine is very strong.

with the mini i did the first change at 5500miles then second one at 11000miles then i'll let the dealer change it at 15K then I'll do another one after another 7-8K miles.

stop and go and short distance driving is probably just as bad if not worse as tracking

mine does the same thing. I usually just change the oil at around 3k when the oil meter is about 80% a few of the other TL owners that i know on this one board use it for service measurement. i think Jay uses it to for services for his mdx as well ... but i dont use it to measure oil change..

yep, stop and go and short trips is categorized as harsh conditions for car engines by most if not all auto makers.
