Honestly you need to sit down wit the office manager and discuss the issue and the possibility of finding someone else. I the two of you can't work together or one party is unwilling to then you need to find someone who can and will.
yeah i would agree with this.

also given the new information about her being a retired 3 star generals wife, i would say difference in age is also coming into play.

This is why I wouldn't want to work for family. I understand that your mom is a great mentor and resource for networking, but I don't think people who work for their parents get as much respect. At least that has been my experience in 2 offices.

If I were you, I would talk to her personally and settle it yourself in a calm, adult manner. Tell her that her shift ends at 12pm Wednesday so if anything that happens before 12 carries over past 12, she is required to stay and finish the task. Tell her that you were required to do it when you were in that position (so you don't seem like you're trying to be authoritative).

I may be an asshole but when it comes down to business I am all about it getting done right and no bs involved.

I get respect from company reps and clients. They love that I work for my mom they think its great, especially because they like her. But as far as co-workers...they just dont get it.

When I first started here one of the ladies (Whom is still here), she thought I was gunna come in and trapes around and think that I was the shit and I Could do what I wanted..Then I proved myself and proved I was here to do business...and now she respects me and what I do.

This woman is just someone who hates the fact that someone younger than her is higher up.

Well, like I said..just in my experience, people don't tend to respect those who work for their parents. Maybe that isn't the case for you, in which case you are lucky. However, if this lady doesn't respect you because of the age difference, tough luck. You almost have to go to your mom since she's the boss.

Is your office really small or something? Too bad there isn't an HR dept.

I would just print off the job requirements of the secretary position, make sure she reads it, and slap her upside the head.

To quote Hunter S Thompson in Fear and Loathing "Don't take any guff from that fucking swine"

cuppycake you have 2 options.

1. deal with it. and be miserable/

2. go to your om as your manager, and you as the employee, not mother daughter. and having her caught on video tape/recording being a bitch also helps.
