Honestly you need to sit down wit the office manager and discuss the issue and the possibility of finding someone else. I the two of you can't work together or one party is unwilling to then you need to find someone who can and will.
Its just really taboo for me.
Because Im the youngest one here...everyone else is twice as old as me...and one of the ladies is older than that. So naturally they all usually get along with her, and im pretty sure that even though I get along with the OM, she gets along with this other woman too....so thats why it's hard.

I hate bringing things like this up because of my age, and because my mom is the boss....its a double negative on my end.

lose-lose type deal

True.
But I love working for my mom
Shes been the best mentor Ive had...shes got alot of connections...and she has taught me an immense amount about business owning, insurance, shes a very smart woman.

The only reason she doesnt really see all this going on is because this woman doesnt act like that to anyone else but me. Im the only one that gets attitude from her

You want to be taken as an adult then step into the role.

It affects your work and may affect the office as a whole. Approach the situation and handle it from that viewpoint and not personal.

This is what adult bosses do, age has no bearing on the matter...seniority in the company has everything to do with it.

Maybe in this case I Should just bite the bullet, not worry about opinions of others, and just talk to my mother.

Explain to her in a calm, and adult mannor what is going on. And maybe ask if she notices it too?

Maybe this woman just has a problem with taking instructions from someone younger. That could be. Some people arent bothered by it..someare

Yup, you have to start somewhere. You might take a role at another job where you will be younger than most your co-workers, but you have to learn how to voice up or else you'll end up in this shitty situation.

We have an secretary/office manager at our place that is a junior member of the company. I have to tell her at times what to do and how we want it done.

She is in her 50's I believe and I am in my 30's, it can at times be uncomfortable but it has to be done. The good thing is she is a great person to work with and takes the suggestions and requests and builds upon them.

This is what a good office admin does and if not then find a better fit for your office. It will cost you time, money and possibly clients if it goes too far.

Talk with your office manager and your mother as you said but also document issues that are going on and bring them up immediatley with the receptionist at the time. If you let it build up you take things out of context and lose credibility.

it just makes me so mad when she gives me attitude about doing the SIMPLEST things, like faxing docs for me. She knows how busy all of us are. The least she could do is even stick her neck out and ASK if there is anything else she could be doing.

She has been here 6 months and still doesnt buzz back calls right, she doesnt say the names right, and they are usually people that call in ALL The time. I just dont know how she isnt understanding this??? I just feel like this job is too fast paced for her. She doesnt understand in this business that when people want things, they want it now. and if she cant do HER job right..we cant do ours right.

Then she is a bad fit for your office and you should replace her before it costs you money and clients.

Try to see if she will straighten out but give it an initial timeframe, if things don't improve in that timeframe then move her chair outside and someone elses to her desk.
