Default Hey guys, question for those of you guys that have traveled abroad

...specifically to Spain

I am going for a few days and will be needing a phone. What do you guys think is the best way of going about this? Should I just get a cell phone in Spain? Or will I be able to use my Sprint phone for cheaper I dont see anything on Sprint's website about using my phone there. :uhhok: Although renting a phone from Sprint will cost $55 for 2 weeks

How many days are you traveling for?

Do u need to call within Spain more?; or call back to the US?

Edit - Cheapest way about it is getting a calling card from the internet (i think you can find the best one for you if you look around). you can buy one there as well, but it is better to go prepared.

10 days.

I like the mobility of a cell phone...and I dont know if my phone will even work in Spain. I will need to call within the country more...but will probably call back here also.

Pretty sure the rates for you calling inside Spain with your American number could be more expensive than you dialing back home (or could be close to equal). I am also pretty sure you have to call and inform them to activate international roaming on your phone. If you do have problem getting a connection there, try manually scanning for networks and pick whatever is compatible with Sprint service.

You could also get a prepaid gsm sim card there, but i am not quite sure what kind of details they would need before issuing a number. (This way you will have a local number, and usually incoming calls are free)

However, the cheapest way would be to get a 40-50 Euro Calling card and use pay phones. Primary drawback is that it's you who has to reach people and nobody can contact you.

spain uses gsm service so the easiest solution is to take a gsm phone with you
buy a prepaid gsm sim card over there that allows international calling
use it up in 10 days
throw it away and put your old sim card back in when you get home

shouldnt have any issues as long as your phone is unlocked and allows international sim cards to be used
