Exactly. You saw the RRoD. You can now send it back. It doesn't matter if it green lights now, because this happens often. Those techs have seen this before.

Yup. That's how mine started. About 5 or 6 months ago, I kept getting game freezes and it red ringed once. After I beat the shit out of it, it started working again for a few months, but it's just a matter of time before it completely quits.

I wouldn't risk waiting till you are out of the 3 year RROD free replacement.
