Xbox One Crew w. big enises ... Halo MCC HYPE THREAD! (est. 2007)
I'd only be buying it for the multiplayer. According to IGN, the multiplayer is pretty much the same game w/ 3 new maps. "The gameplay, matchmaking, and general layout is unchanged from Halo 3, so don't expect to go into this game with the ODST's sweet pistol or silenced SMG. This is simply more of the Halo 3 adversarial game you've been playing for the past couple of years." http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/102/1025307p4.html
Are you guys really that excited about another Halo campaign that only lasts for approximately 6 hours?
Firefight does seem like it would be fun, but I doubt I would play this very often. I already have this on GOW2, but have only played it a few times.
To me, this game is all about the standard multiplayer. Had this been 12 new maps with some new weapons in addition to the campaign and firefight, I would have pre-ordered for sure.

If you don't play nice with others, there's always the second disc in the Halo 3: ODST package. Here you'll find every single Halo 3 map released to date and three new maps just to sweeten the deal. ODST is the first disk, which is a different game with different modes and types of play. And multplayer. Just no PVP I think. I believe it's all PVC.

I think Bungie really dropped the ball by regurgerating all the old maps with only 3 new maps. Like I said before, had these been all new maps w/ some new weapons, I would have bought it. I think they should have kept ODST and the Mythic Maps completely separate since they are totally different from eachother. They obviously did this intentionally to get more sales. I think ODST by itself would be another flop, just like Halo Wars.
I really hope I'm wrong about ODST. I'd love to have another game that I would play as much as I played H3. I just don't see that being the case. I'll probably buy ODST when I can get it cheap off of craigslist.
I read the full article. The Mythic disc is still part of buying ODST. I'm really only interested in the online multiplayer (PvP). I really don't think I'm alone in this. Do you see yourself actively playing the ODST PVC multiplayer stuff as long and as much as you've played H3? For me, I'd probably play it for a couple of weeks and then go back to exclusively playing PVP.

I see myself and a few other regulars I play with having a ball with this. Maybe not for as LONG as Halo 3, but I can almost guarantee we get our monies worth. I always enjoyed playing the co-op campaign with some friends.
I'm sure updates will come out in the next few months as well to extend the MP experience. And with as much time and enjoyment I get from H3, I don't have a problem spending more money on it. :dunno:
ODST started off as a DLC expansion ... that got a little too large. Bungie saw an opportunity to try something familiar, but new and ran with it. Although the Campaign mode is short (IGN says 6 hours, my first hand exp says 8 to 9), Bungie made sure to offer other things in the ODST bundle to leave fans happy.
The Mythic disc (H3 maps) gives folks who do not play online all of the available content. H2 did this by releasing a separate $30 disc. Also, these maps have gone through several revisions to make them more fair .. the latest, greatest, and more final versions of the maps (Construct, Guardian, Pit, Narrows, etc) are there.
The ODST disc offers Firefight. The only downfall to this is that there is no XBL Firefight matchmaking. You need to supply your own friends.
On the topic of Campaign ... I stayed up till 2:30am to complete it. Totally worth it.
- With Halo 3, you weren't given much of an opportunity to use the "cool" weapons. I think I found a laser once, was given the opportunity to truly snipe twice, and never found properly placed chain guns. All corrected in ODST. Alien weapons are everywhere. Complete a level and you start unlocking "Superintendent artillery supply closets" around the city.
- While the IGN editor claims ODST is 6 hours long, it isn't. It's what you make of it. Bungie cut no corners when it came to level design.
- The soundtrack needs to win an award. Everything I'm hearing is full symphony composed. It's crazy to get this type of quality in a game.
- Upgrades / updates are logical.
-- Full speed w. detached gun turret.
-- Banshee hovers, no more annoying downward drag.
-- several visor updates
-- etc.
game = awesome.

Picked it up, gonna start the campaign at 9 est - anyone else in? Also, can the second disk be used as an H3 multiplayer disk? so you can play H3 online without using your old halo 3 disk? Packaged sort of says that vaguely.
