If you can swing it, check out some resorts on the northern west end in Ka'anapali. There are tons of stuff in the resorts itself and from there, you have your super awesome beaches.
Ka'anapali is where I stayed. Next time I will most likely spend 10days in Molakai and 5 days in Maui. Molokai is 10x more relaxed than Maui is from what my friend told me. They also have semi secluded hotels for a reasonable price.

You didn't go to Haleakala? well it's a full day event. I think I told you about it, how on the way there you pass one of the top wind surfing spots in the world
