CEL and Gas relation?

CEL and Gas relation?
My friends CEL will come on right when she hits half a tank to empty, and once she fills it beyond half it immediately goes out...what would cause this correlation to happen?

Bad fuel sensor?
Have her go to autozone when it comes on to see what's wrong with it. They should be able to check it for free.
She wouldn't happen to be driving an Isuzu Rodeo, would she?

C. Already checked the gas cap and why would it only come on at 1/2 tank if gas cap.
