You wish those things are forged all the time.

Buy a $150 CC then modify it to read $1500 or some variant and poof gone with the goods all day long.

Cash talks and the rest walks.

I sold something to a guy online for $140. He sent me a personal check. I live in Cali, he is in Texas. How long should I wait so that I am SURE that his check wont bounce? I called his bank today and verified that funds are there.

yup. plus it's a small amount.

or if the buyer insists on a cashier's check, go with him to his bank while they cut it.

Newer cashier's checks are issued in a manner that makes them extremely hard to forge. Inks to prevent washout, patterns in void areas, etc...I mean its doable, but much more difficult than "adding an extra 0".

Yes I know this and you know this but proof has been given many times over that if it takes a thief a month to forge a dozen cashiers checks of various amounts than it is worth it to them. Then all they do is find items at or near that amount they can haggle to the amount the check is forged to and some unsuspecting person takes the hit.

Again cash and carry or go to the bank with that person while the check is drawn with you watching the entire transaction.

Cashiers check is like a money order...You pay the amount of the check up front for the cashier's check, unlike a personal check that can be written for any amount and be returned for insufficient funds.

cash would be the best option.

like everyone said either go to the bank, or go to the post office to get a money order.

cashiers check is guaranteed. they can only be written if there is enough money and the money is debited right when the check is created.

as for me i would go with the person to the bank and get the check there. don't get pwned by a fake cashiers check :loco:
