are the high speed memory sticks worth the extra money?

I dont think so, because from what i understand, if you are using it in a digi cam. It only transfers from the cam to the computer faster. It doesnt actually record the image on the memory stick any faster.

I dunno about Sony cameras, but other cameras that use other flash memory formats like CF or SD cards can definitely improve their shooting performance with a faster card. Or to twist that around, you may not achieve the manufacturer's quoted performance specs for read/write time and continuous shooting if you don't have a fast enough card.
