That's why it always comes back there. I had a rothole on both 1/4 panels of the Civic, had both quarter panels cut off the car, cut off the visible rust from the outside of the panel, sand blasted the underside, acid dipped, bondo/fiberglass, rubber undercoated, sand/primed/sand/primed/sand/primed :eek3: and then painted.

And that my friends is the only way to get rid of Honda rot.
So my inner rear quarters are probably rotted to shit if my outers are starting to rot?

Yep. Don't pull up your trunk hatch liner. :shhh:

It's an absolute pain in the ass, and it sucks. There's no way to sugarcoat it.

While the Vigor has only one tiny bubble of rust (smaller than a dime) on the passenger 1/4 panel (and hasn't grown in a while), when the car is redone this Summer, I'm pulling the entire rear subframe apart to inspect the floors, quarters and inners.

teg92 if you're reading this I'm doing this before the car is brought down, I wouldn't leave you with that kind of burdon h:

So I need to buy new inners and have them welded in?

It figures that those plastic panels are the only ones I never pulled out and looked behind. h:

I want a clean chassis.

Yep. I had mine cutoff and then inspected, and they were saveable (the outers). It just spreads like cancer.

New outers are $700 a pop for each side, inners probably run you $400 (Civic anyway) a side, they have to be welded in, and are labor intensive.

The outers are usually always saveable unless you have a rothole a 5-year old child can crawl through.

Oh well, at least if I have it done I can have the car rustproofed so it won't happen again. I'd like to keep my chassis strength. h:

Yeah, start saving now. h: Luckily I've known my bodyguy forever and he owed me a favor so I lucked out big time.

I ended up only paying $2,400 for everything (he didn't paint them). It may seem a lot it, but go to a good bodyshop and ask the labor charge of just a new outer quarter panel replacement.

Full price, including paint? I would have been in the hole almost $6,000.

So this is the part that's most likely rotted to shit right? And this is exposed from the inside?

And this is what I'm trying to save?

Where are the suspension pickup points located in the rear?

Those repairs should get you to well over 200k. My car only has an intake so it's not really that loud. I will keep it that way.

This is so depressing

I'm know I'm going to end up putting thousands more into performance things and ignoring the body until it is rotted beyond all hope. h:
