well when i bought my ps2 from some kid on HAN here.... a couple of years ago.... sometimes when i turned it on it would take a few minutes to load a game.... and i'd hear this buzzing noise. wasnt a big deal to me cuz it always loaded and played fine.

well as time went on, the noise became more frequent and sometimes lasted longer... but still only when i first turned it on.... and again, once the game loaded it was fine.

well today, im playing some tiger woods.... and (thankfully) right between 2 matches, right after i saved.... it started buzzing like crazy and wouldnt load.... now i cant get it to load at all :wtc:

anybody ever had this problem or have any ideas what's wrong with it? how do i fix it? i cant afford another one and i cant live without it!!! :crazyr:

 

you could take it to a place like United Radio or any other electronics shop and see if they can fix it. It should be cheaper than buying a new one.

 

did you try turning it in strange directions?

try inserting the game, then flipping the unit upside down. :hs:

Ive had two ps2's sent in and fixed because of this... its something with the laser that gets fucked up...

Call sony and complain and raise hell til they replace/fix it for free. THats what I had to do...TWICE!

 

i shook it but to no avail... and blew into it.... i was hoping its just a dirty lens

 

It's probably the laser, they click when they can't focus nd are trying to read the disc. If the system is unopened, meaning warranty sticker intact...call sony and complain. If that doesn't work you can alays open up the PS2 and order a new replacement laser from ebay for like $25.

 

well i just turned it on and it started right up

soooo im gonna get a can of air and a dvd player cleaner disk and see if that quiets it down for a little while...

im also gonna check the numbers on it to see how old it is etc.... i dont have a clue since i bought it used. i heard that some ps2s in a certain number series get replaced with no flak..... but i really dont want to resort to buying another one.... esp with the ps3 being (supposedly) right around the corner...


how long did this take? i heard that sony's tech service SUCKS

 

Werd. Faulty laser head. If warranty does not cover this, I am sure you can get the whole cd drive for pretty cheap and the install should not be too involved.

 

something prob happened while it was being shipped, if a ps2 is moved around to much the lazer gets messed up :hs: just replace the laser urself

Or since Sony issued a recallish thing you can get it cleaned for free. I still need to take car of mine. Its been out since midsummer.
