Default Selling your current car & spending more money on a new car just to save a few bucks

Selling your current car & spending more money on a new car just to save a few bucks at the pump. Does that make much sense to you? I know a lot of people who are doing that or have talked about doing that. Sure it would be nice to save $5-$10 a week on gas but do they really think those savings justify selling their current vehicles in good condition and buying something new that gets 5-10mpg more? :dunno:

Discuss.

It's nice to see good MPG when you fill up at the pump. I was pondering selling my accord and getting a Civic HX a few months ago but I couldn't trade down just for MPG.

The way I see it is that it's just an added bonus on top of everything else that comes with having a new and better car.

this is about gas savings, not buying a faster car that's older

i think that its pointless because you lose money on the transaction of buying a new car and you cant really sell your car that you have for what you bought it for. whatever you will save in gas you will lose in taxes, license & registration, and depreciation.

however im looking into new car thats cheap that i can lease new. i have no idea what to look at, i was thinking scion tc or maybe a golf 1.8t ( ). something with good milage consumption and preferably real cheap would be awesome. do you guys have any ideas?
