Default What digital camera would you recommend for $400ish?

I'm a beginner but have been interested in amature photography for a while. Would like to know some opinions and recommendations of entry level digi cams. Take good night shots, scenic shots of landscapes, and have a decent movie mode with sound.

So far the Canon A80 is the camera i've been most interested in...

Canon A80 review

its right in the middle between compact and big and has nice features like multi angle lcd and the ability to mess around with the settings compared to other cameras in this price range ($375). Only thing is that i wasn't to impressed with the video recording compared with other digi cams. The canon only has 15 frames per second movie mode.

To be honest I'm not really sure what kind of camera I would be most happy with. I like the compact point and shoot cameras but am afraid that about picture quaility and not being able to get into changing the settings.

Also i was told that a replacement for the Canon A80 was on its way soon. Is this true? Camera guys help me out please.

what cameras would your recommend?

If you're talking about the S50, it does have manual settings
