I'm sorry, but no movie about Jesus needs to be that bloody

it figures that the religious right would accept a movie as gory as that JUST because its the story about Jesus. And 15 seconds of resurectoin vs. the 2 hours of violence? :wtf:

talk about trashing the whole point.....
? the violence in The Passion was an accurate portrayal of what happened.
yes, his resurrection is the focal point of christianity, but his suffering is also a huge part. its supposed to mean something, but i can't think of it

his execution wasnt very different from other people that were crucified. there are historical records of crucifixion to back it up.

when I say "talk about trashing the whole point....."

basiclly, the story of Christ wasn't about his sufferage. I think passion plays are totally pointless. How many religious leaders and zealots died for their cause? Its no different than Jesus.

however, its the resurrection, I feel, that makes jesus different from all those leaders and zealots. frankly, there's hardly a lick of difference between judiasim, islam, and christianity, save that major point. I think thats the biggest reason I still have some faith in chirstianity, which would have otherwise faded in light of recent events....

and applying this resurrection to us is what its ment by Jesus saving us, I feel. Its like the whole fight club concept: "once we lose it all, we're free to do anything"

regardless, the point of Jesus isn't to shock people with uber violence. But again, I haven't seen it.

I just think its ironic, thats all....

and besides, no one KNOWS how it was. Even acient record can be misleading. They spoke alot in metaphor.... I don't take a single religious document verbatum, nor do I think anyone should. Its the idea, not the actual words....

well since you're a well read religious scholar, I think everyone should believe you instead

the major point of difference is that in Christianity, you are saved by grace.. In Judaism and Islam, you gotta to helluva lot more stuff to get into heaven.

Well, if you're gonna look at it that way...how do you know any of it's real? What if it's just another fictional story? Then there's no reason to be upset that they're commercializing it.
