I've got 802.11b linksys and I love it. Never had any problems with it. Well actually once I did, I was picking up my neighbor's signal and my adapter decided to drop my signal while opting for their's, but I soon fixed that.

so moving on to routers, routers allows connections to a different network segment. so if you want to connect network A with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx address with network B with yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy address you would need a router.

802.11b is very reliable. as for security, you can enable WEP and mac address filtering which will keep most people out.
sounds good, however, i thought that was Megabits per seconds (Mbps), not megabytes per seconds (MB/s).. or is that what you meant?

(1 byte = 8 bits)

anywho, i've decided to pass on the offer. i've found that for a little more $$, i can find 802.11g equipment, brand new. for example, a 802.11g netgear router for about $45, after rebate.

thanks everyone for all the help!
