I can't remember any president in recent history that has been so marred over his record of nonpartisanship, a lack of responsibility to the working class, ignorance of foreign relations and foreign policy, and irresponsibility of the country's fiscal and economic position.
I think most people with a critical eye can see that this administration has manipulated facts and espoused fiction to create so-called legitimate reasons for their actions such as going to war in Iraq, enacting tax cuts for the wealthy, rolling back environmental regulations, and infringing on personal freedoms.
I do not place the entire blame on Bush. He's not smart enough to create all these schemes on his own. Rather I fault the adminstration that has misled us from the start. I'm not sure what the administration's overall goal was, but I can be certain that it does not include prosperity for the average American.

...and it's the PRESIDENT. Have some respect, even if you don't like him.

So instead you split your army to fight two wars on different fronts. In addition, you have major security obligations in Korea, Japan, and Europe. There is problem with being overly aggressive too...the US army is spread really thin. During the Rwandan crisis, part of the reason the US didn't join is because we were already stationed in the aforementioned countries, as well as Saudi Arabia and Bosnia.
So there is a question of whether a country should get involved in the civil wars of other countries, especially if there are no interests to protect. The US had one about 150 years ago, and the British, had they decided to do so, would have intervened on behalf of the Confederacy, and if they did we'd probably singing Dixie as our national anthem today (or possibly God Save the Queen). Do you always want other countries barging in on your business, even if it is the business of war?

Correct, had Robert E. Lee won the battle of Gettysburg, the war would've been won in favor of the South. Did you know that the main theory as to his loss was a fence in the middle of the field? Troops had to reposition themselves after climbing over it while under Federal fire.

Actually Longstreet went on record with Lee stating that he felt the charge by Picketts division was doomed to failure. Lee insisted the center of the line would break, and it did for a brief moment. I'd love to go to the battlefield sometime. On my roadtrip up to NYC, I drove thru VA and stopped for gas at Fredricksburg. The Stafford Heights area is beautiful, and it was really cool to see IRL the things I've read about in history books (rivers and such)

i've been to gettysburg a couple of times, and i used to live right by Bull Run in VA (you know, the battle of bull run). my dads had been a civil war camp at one point, and one time i was walking by the cow pond and i found a civil war bullet, never shot. i think it was union (the one with the star inside of it).
ok, that was totally off topic, but oh well.
