In fairness, I voted for Bush. Mostly because Gore came off as an asshole during the debates, and Bush's rhetoric of "Compassionate Conservatism" and "I am a Uniter, not a Divider" appealed to me (and I thought he was serious). However, he has let me down miserably. His policies have been anything but compassionate, and ultra-conservative would have been a more correct word. And he has been one of the most unilateral president's in our history, one of the biggest Dividers of the last 100 years.

Clark or Dean in '04!!

but if you ask the religious right, he's fair and equal to them

Once again, what about the Rwandan genocide?
And Cambodia just after the Vietnam War...

In response to FatBooty's original post:
1) I'm a fence sitter!! h:
There are a few things that I think Bush has done right. I think he handled the period immediately following the WTC attacks pretty well. I think it helped the American people, who were pretty darn shocked that something like that happened, to see their president essentially get up and say, "Ok, whoever done this, you gonna PAY...SUCKA!!" (more or less) Also, as bad as imperialism is, I think many really felt that Saddam should have been taken care of long ago, WMD's or not. But I do have to wonder what kind of politics were going on prior to the war starting. I'm sure it was something...nefarious.

...That said, I think Bush was somewhere between ok and good for the time. Now his time is done. He needs to take his toys and his weirdo friends from Homeland Security, and go home. No more playing in the White House for him.

2) Religious right wing conservatives are not what we need right now. Globalization will continue in the future, and we will not be doing ourselves any favors by being isolationists. As a people, I think we need to get our heads out of our asses and start paying attention to what the rest of the world is doing, rather than which celebrity has a sex tape coming out this month. We should be proud of what the country has accomplished, and the diversity available within, but we should also be leading the pack on environmental and human-rights issues, not hiding in the corner. And, for ****'s sake, we should be cleaning up after ourselves and taking responsibility for the damage we do in other countries. (i.e. leftover landmines, injured civilians, depleted uranium all over the place, etc.)

I feel like I had something else to say, but I forgot what it was.
Oh well.

Excuse me while I go put on my Nomex.

Oh, now I remember...

Regarding Homeland Security, etc: We absolutely DO NOT need another J. E. Hoover, or McCarthy.

Respect has to be earned, and he has yet to earn any from me

oh yeah... and i agree with kfar09. first of all, bush's oppenents need to take the time that they put into making fun of him and actually concentrate that time into arguing intelligently against him. second, he's the fukkin leader of the country, even if you do not like his position, he still should be respected. my dad always said that americans never have any respect for each other, i guess he's right.

(if neone feels like flaming, shut up, i'm not coming back to this thread again)

He is the President of the US but I do not have to accept that nor do I have to give him the slightest bit of respect.
