Paintball question for anyone really into paintball or in aerospace
21" CMI Super Sniper Barrel
This barrel is supposedly for better speed and accuracy.
What I don't get is that it's made of aluminum and the rifling is... straight.
Two things I know:
(1) Aluminum is a high friction metal.
(2) Spiral rifling makes bullets fire straighter and farther.
I don't know much about paintball guns. Is this barrel for real or is it all bs?

from experience,
that barrel won't do anything, if it did anything, i'd get in the way.....21" is too damn long...
manuevering around bunkers would be a biatch...
as far as rifling, straight rifling works, like in the smartparts AA, it's relatively straight, but not completely......
being faster? being faster is not because of the barrel, i fire the same amnt of paint thru my 8" and my 16" barrels, doesn't make a difference....
and the accuracy is because of the paint to barrel match....if you shoot .687 thru a .689 barrel, they would slide out...if it's a .687 barrel, and you're shooitng .689 the paint wouldn't load and cause breaks in the barrel...
hope that helps.

You know, I've never taken the time to match up barrel bore with paintball diameter. I just buy balls and go play! I've heard recommended to not buy barrels over 16" as well. Beyond that, they just waste money!

what iceberg said and in my personal experience a short barrel is/can be just as effective as a longer barrel. my best barrel for my minimag is only 10".
Some of the pros that i knew had different barrels for the type of balls as well as temperature.
also those 16" if you look at them the last 5-6" is vented meaning not much is going on at the last few inches. They do, however make the gun quieter.
One thing I always wanted to do but never did was get a Palmer barrel www.palmer-pursuit.com
I also wanted to get a Typhoon or a Nasty Typhoon but never did :dunno:
Here is a pic of the Nasty

I run an 18" barrel on my guns and have no problems in bunkers...of course most people who play now are nothing but speedball players so smaller barrels and lower accuracy is fine (paint by numbers basically) I play more open fields and do a lot of snipering so the long barrel is my friend.
If you play close fields don't bother with a long barrel as the only thing that truly increases is your long distance accuracy and not actually your speed at all.
