And there is another magazine track comparison where the M roadster (the old 240hp not the newer 315 version) was slightly faster.

Even then, while I don't have either magazine in front of me, I believe the M was faster through some sections than the S2000 -- and at that all three cars were within a narrow margin of time.

I thought Motor Trend said the Boxster S was the king of handling, followed closely by the S2K...? I will try to go through all my back issues and dig up that morsel of info...

Lap times were 57.72 for the 240HP M-Roadster, 56.9 for the Porsche, and 56.8 for the S2K. Basically, the S2K has the potential to turn faster times than the Boxster but it requires alot more work to do so. Plus, it's a good $20,000 cheaper.

So what's your track car?

Yeah, but you have to think -- who cares. Magazines are magazines. We don't live in them.

Personally, the S2000 is not my definition of a good track car -- not stock anyway. Too much bumpsteer, a tendency to snap the ass end around and not enough brake/tire stock. Throw in the lack of a roof and real roll bars behind you ....

Now, all of these things can and have been sorted out and there are a number of S2000's out there that are fantastic track cars. To each his own.

98CoupeV6, previously a worked over S52 99 M coupe (The Z3 derived ones, suspension, brakes, tires, etc 1:12's at SCR near Denver), now a 2002 S54 M coupe, and a 01 Z06 to boot.

The M will get coil-overs, brakes, adjustible sways, camber etc. The Z06 is scary fast stock, all it needs is tires and gas.

The point of a discussion is to learn things from each other. Give me a break

I agree with your 2nd paragraph Steve. The S2K is a tough car to work with. My dad has one, I've raced it at Watkins Glen. Snap oversteer got me once. However, if you know the car very well and learn its limits, it has been proven it can turn faster times than a Boxster S....but with considerably more effort. I love the S54 M Shoe and the 01 Z06...you are a fortuanate man to be able to keep those things in your garage

I love every bit of it. It's parked for the winner so you can imagine the agony I'm going thru. I swear I'm going thru withdrawal symptom.
