It really depends on which directions you want to go. Let me break it down for ya.
DC2 Integra type R
pros: lighter, comes with better tires, better brakes, better suspension, higher rpm, excellent cornering.
cos: 5speed, interior very old like a 10year old car.
my comments: if you are not going to mod the car, if you want to race a stock car in circuit or just auto x, if you like the solid feel during cornering.... this is the car for you
RSX-S
pros: 6speed, 2.0liter iVTEC engine respond to mods very well, vtec transition is smoother, fine suspension, good cornering, great interior, more space, quieter and softer ride.
cos: ok tires, ok brakes, without body kits the car looks like a family car, stock lower arm bars are hollow and light they have minimum effect at cornering.
my comments: $590 for a Hondata ECU plus a $200 Cold Air intake you get your type S about a stock S2000 acceleration. Spend some more you will be pretty fast, people with i/h/e and ECU are looking to break into 13s without LSD and slicks. If you also have Toda cams you will be running aroud 220whp NA for little inline 4. Spend a few grands on suspension, rims and tires, you'll get a car outhandle DC5 R. If you like modding the car while having better interior, this should be the one to get. Ultimately with equal mods plus the ECU and cams, you can outrun the DC2 Integra type R (US 1996-2001) at drag or circuits.

Dude, thats what I had to choose between. I so wanted A type-R, but when I was shopping for cars the average price for an 00-01 R was around 24 grand with low miles. I even saw a 00 GSR with 36000 miles going for 20 g's. So I decided on getting a new car, and got the S. now its a diff story, cause i see hella Type-R 's for sale under 20 grand. Maybe its because everyone wants RSX's. Well anyways, if u get a good deal, get a Type-R. Such a cool car to own. i still wanna get my hands on one in the near future.

I had placed an order for a 2002 RSX-S (Arctic blue) last year, but I cancelled it because the wait was too long. After riding in a few, driving a few and buying my Type-R, I feel I made the right choice for me.
It's VERY responsive, quick like a mother & turns WAY more heads than an RSX.
The RSX is comfortable, refined, heavy & has sketchy tires & 4x4 ride height. Not to mention the McPherson (sp?) suspension, which would account for a lack of aftermarket shocks & springs.
