Problem with Window - shatter
Hi - I have honda civic 2004 si sedan, and 3 days ago my rear passenger window literally shattered/imploded while i was driving - it shattered with such force and impact that glass was everywhere in the vehicle including by the front windshield. Luckily no one was sitting in the back seat at the time, as someone could have been seriously injured. Has anyone else ever heard or have anything of a similar nature happen to them?

hmmm... sounds like you need to contact honda... as well as your lawyer. Seems as though you may just be headed towards some nice chump change. Make sure they all understand how "traumatized" you are from this incident.

The same exact thing happend to me in my 01 Lude. it wasnt my back window though, it was my side passenger window. I was going like 65 down the highway, and BOOOOM! the thing just blew up. Like glass hitting me in the face and getting stuck into my seats. Honda wouldnt pay for it, they said it sounded like someone through a rock at it or some crap. it was a back road highway with not a thing in sight. So my insurance took care of it, i had to pay $50 though. Still dont know why it exploded like that.

this happens sometimes, usually its a factory defect where the rear window de icers are too thin or one of the leads stops working and the current is devided onto the remaining traces, if one of the traces is thinner it will heat up faster and then the window will explode. it happend on my minivan once. honda should replace it for u at no charge.

didn't think our cabins were THAT pressurized, but if it is like this, wouldn't ALL the windows shatter......
i have heard about the defroster in the back hatch glass causing shattering windows though

In most cases, one window is going to be sufficiently weaker than the others either due to manufacturing defects or the way its mounted, prior damage, etc... this one will blow first and the pressure will equalize.
The pressure would have to change very fast for a second, 3rd, fourth, etc. window to all blow out before the pressure equalizes from the first blow out.
