Default Greetings from Glasgow, Scotland!

Hi all, Just thought I'd introduce myself before I start posting on what is a most impressive and informative site. My name's Martin and I'm from Glasgow, Scotland. Hope you all don't mind a newbie from so far afield signing up!

As for my car....I drive a civic a Honda civic which I've had since October of last year. It's the entry level 3 dr model which has a 1.4 litre engine and now comes with side sills as standard which gives it a more sporty look. As you'll see, I've made a few modifications.

Firstly, I removed the standard exhaust and replaced it with a stainless steel twin tipped REMUS backbox which looks really good. If I'm honest I chose it because I like the look of the standard exhaust on the Honda civic Type R but fear not - I'm not one of these CTR lookalike wannabees lol. Performance-wise I can't say I've noticed much of a difference (not that I was expecting one) although there is a more sporty note upon starting the engine and during quick acceleration which is nice.

Next up was a simple sunstrip which IMO adds to the looks of the car. I made sure I kept the size/depth of the sunstrip to the legal limits just so I don't have any bother with the police. Then it was time for the big one - a full respray. Having had a new-shape vauxhall (opel in Europe) corsa before the civic I had that resprayed in the Alfa Romeo Nuvola Blue flip paint (flips between blue and gold) which I liked so I decided to get the same for the civic and IMO it looks fantastic - everythings colour-coded and at a pretty good price and when the sun hits it- all I can say is WOW! I know there will be some who will say 'boy racer' or whatever but tbh I'm not - I just like the colour and the attention that the car gets (if I'm honest) and it's a vast improvement over the standard satin silver paint the car originally had.

On went my private plate before long (R9 MTM) and a set of 17" BK RACING 299 hyper-black alloys which have gold studs around the circumference which I chose to match the paint These came with TOYO proxes which have proved to be really grippy and the best tyres I've had so far.

Don't ask me why but a neighbour owns a car graphics/decals company so I decided to get something for across the top of the windscreen where the sunstrip is - was having a look through a few mags and saw the NEMESIS advert with a CTR sporting the NEMESIS logo across the top of its windscreen so NEMESIS it was (no I haven't got anything from nemesis on the car and yes I deserve to be slagged for this ). I'm already taking digs for it - apparently it's the name of a Greek God - the wager of war and destruction no less - perhaps more suitable for the looks of the CTR but hey, I think it looks good and I'm sure I'll take it off down the line.

Externally, that's about it - all in all I think it looks damn good and I think a Type R would look fantastic in this colour which isn't too ott and can be seen on a good few Alfa Romeos.

Inside, I've bought a centurian DVD player - where the 7" widescreen monitor is mounted on the dash and the actual dvd player is located under the passenger seat. Picture quality's excellent and I'm pleased I bought it. You simply plug it into the lighter socket and that's it - fully operational, although it can be wired up to a separate switch if u wish. As a result of the interor roof bulb blowing I bought a replacement blue neon bulb today which looks really good and while giving off enough light still keeps with the colour of the car. Haven't done anything else to the inside of the car.

So far, the things I like are....

(1) the gear knob position - it's such a novelty yet it feels so right/natural - It'll be hard going back to a normal manual!

(2)Considering the car's only a 1.4 it's actually a nippy thing and is much quicker than the 1.2 corsa it replaced. Externally, It looks pretty much the same as the sport model - although there's no lowere bumper spoiler at the front or the back and the side sills aren't as deep but you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference without closer examination. Mind you, I guess when you drive them both, the V-Tec comes into a world of its own. Have to admit, if I had the CTR, I'd be a little gutted that the sport model looks so similar to the CTR - personally, I think there's a need to make the CTR stand out more from the rest of the model range.

(3) economy - trip shows I'm getting around 30ish miles to the gallon - would be interested to hear what you all get in the CTR.

(4) The general space in the cabin - very impressive especially in the back - both headroom and leg-room wise given the absence of a central transmission tunnel.

(5) The instrument layout in the centre console - everythings close at hand and it looks well laid out.

(6) The seats - very supportive although not as grippy as the CTR's I'd imagine.

Things I don't like...

(1) The glove box really needs to be bigger - the car manual holder hardly fits in never mind anything else!

(2) No 'memory' on the front seats - really does my head in - takes me ages to get my driving position back to the way I like it.

(3) The horn - I'd rather dtick my head out of the window and shout honk honk as opposed to pressing that thing. Don't know what the CTR horn is like, but on mine 'Noddy-like' springs to mine. Had an airhorn fitted to my corsa and it's only a matter of time till I sort the civic out.

(4) No reach in the steering wheel - Being 6 foot 3" I need the seat back for the leg room and would like to have the steering wheel a little bit closer.

(5) On the motorway - in first gear it's like a Kangaroo - I'm thinking rush-hour traffic here! a tad embarassing.

(6) The clutch - very light and actually too light for my liking - I've stalled it on a number of occassions when I've had the music on a bit loud and haven't heard the engine - as the biting point isn't as prominent as I'd like it to be.

All in all though, there's nothing else for the money I'd rather have. It's a great car and (touch wood) I haven't had any problems as such yet. As for future plans - nothing major - might get upgraded speakers and a sub in the boot but I'd really like tints - elephant.com - my insurers won't allow me to get tints but I can't complain as they did me an excellent deal overall.

I'll probably replace the civic in about 3 years and I'd definately consider the CTR if the new model's out by then but I'd also really like a Renault clio v6

here's some pics of my civic....

doh! sorry for not putting it in the right section - all these codes and abbreviations confuse me lol!!

I know what u mean about sitting in the 'wrong' seat - my mate bought a corvette (imported obviously) and took me for a ride the other day - I was sitting where the driver would be in a British car - felt weird but with a 5.2 litre engine thrusting me into my seat it was a minor detail - think I actually want one now!!!
