Default SRS light stays on 02 RSX S

I went to the dealer because my SRS light was on. Now the dealer says the computer indicates the passenger airbag was deployed and the entire system must be replaced for $3,200. I was in a fender bender 13 months ago, but the light was not on then and has not been on since. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this? I have a 02 RSX type S. Any information would be appreciated.

i had a prob. with my '03 type s with the passenger airbag light coming on all the time. my girl put a neon light that plugs into the cig lighter spot, and finally the light just came on permanently. the dealership said that somehow the neon messed up some kind of sensor and they were going to have to replace the whole seat. they covered it under warranty, so i didnt have to worry about it.

are they saying you have to replace the seat, or every airbag and sensor?

They are saying I need to replace "parts of the system", not the seat and nor the airbags. I guess I should get more details. The dealer wants me to file an insurance claim. My insurance co. says I have not claim b/c there was no accident. I also have the Acura Care extended warranty. I may have to get the customer relations dept involved.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted out soon. Let us know what happens so others can be aware of these things.
Welcome to HAN too.

you should check if your seat belt works if it works and the SRS lights is on it might be your control module which is located under the driver seat that controls all of your air bags...dont know wat happen to your car but mine is on and it the control module for my car cause i fish tail and crash into a wall and my seat belt didnt work so i replace it then it works fine but the srs light is still on so my friend that is a mechanic told me that its my control module...... so just check that

If you have the extended warranty then it should be covered. Make a big fuss about it and they will cover it. After all, they aren't paying out of their pocket. It goes right to acura. I have had warranty issues and people didn't want to help out. Posting threads like this and getting people involved is what you sometimes have to do. If the air bag wasn't deployed then you should have no problem. Maybe even talk to a couple different dealers and call acura's customer relations department. Also, you might want to talk to the manager of the dealership where you bought your car. That is, if you bought it new.

i believe all newer honda/acura cars srs lights can only be reset with their computers(dealers). they have a special code reader that can do this, i forgot the name at the moment. some other shops should have this type of computer also.

I knew I wasn't crazy !!!!!

Mine came on too....but it doesn't come on very often....and it doesn't stay on.....weird. I guess I can have them check it out regardless.

I pulled the airbag fuse in my 04 civic, and the light has been on since. Is there a way to reset it myself, or do i have to take it to the dealership?
