It's one of the most unpopular Hondas ever sold in the USDM, so there is a kitsch factor that makes it even more interesting for some people.
It's not a race car by any stretch of the imagination, however, and you won't be winning any drag races. As long as you understand that from the beginning, you'll be fine. Because it's a McPherson front driver, you should also avoid the temptation to drop it to the ground because you'll only be hurting the handling.
It's also not worth the sticker price (which is part of why it's unpopular in USDM). For $20,000 you can buy cars with a lot more horsepower. I paid $16,000 for my '02 EP3 and don't regret it in the least. Provided you get a good deal on the car, you'll have a fun car that's also rock solid reliable.

You can do it! It would be a great car to start with IMO, even though I started with a much weaker car - an 82 Prelude, back in 92 - and you get Honda reliability.
I would really like to have one of those, but I'll prolly hold off until I can get an S2000.
But yeah welcome to HAN, and post pics as soon as you get her.

I JUST (like wednesday) grabbed an 03 SI for a new daily driver.. I'm quite pleased with it. Good handling and breaking, and enough pep to keep it from getting boring.
It is fun to drive (and my other car is an '05 Sti) pretty low payment and affordable to insure.

You will love the ep3 si. I haven't had one myself but I would love to get one some day. I had the rsx and liked it but there is less ep3 civic's out there than rsx's. Btw, welcome to the forum.

Wow havent been back to these forums since i sold my '90 Crx  biggest mistake i ever made....but I found a dealership that has a '04 Blue SI with 9,000 miles on it in Houston for $16K but then another dealership in my town said they would match it for the same car with 2,000 miles on it....
cant wait to get my new car
