Widest tire size possible with stock rims...
Ok, I'd like to know once and for all what the widest tire size possible on the RSX is with these conditions:
- maintaining same overall dimension of wheels *a must*
-on stock rims
-without rubbing *a must*
I was under the impression it was 225/45/R16
at the track the other day a guy had 225/50/R16's on his type S. I asked him if his speedo was of and he asked why, and continued to state that was the right size. Now correct me if I'm wrong...please..
OLDMAN, I know you know the answer to this I'm just awaiting your reply.

Using the stock rim the widest tire that will fit and operate at the correct flex point would be a 225/50/16. A 235 needs a 7"rim as a minimum. The diameter of the 225/50/16 is virtually identical to the 205/55/16 on the car. Here is a calculator with visuals:

So...OLDMAN. The guy from the track had the right size?
Why isn't 225/45/R16 I thought that every time you go up a size in width you go 5% less in sidewall..which would equate to 1 up width 1 down sidewall profile...
IDK, I guess I was wrong. The only thing is that I thought I heard it from you OLDMAN that the proper 225 width size is 22/45/R16 I guess I read it wrong, or remember it wrong.
Thanks again...

205 X .55 = 112.75 Height of sidewall in mm
112.75 X 2 = 225.50 Height of both sidewalls above and below
225.50/25.4 (mm in 1") = 8.88"
16 + 8.88" = 24.88" (stock wheel and tire height)
225 X .50 = 112.50
225 X 2 = 225
225/25.4 = 8.86"
16 + 8.86 = 24.86"
The .02" isn't going to affect anything that much.
78.16" in circumference for the stock
78.10" for the new
810.64 revolutions per mile for the stock
811.27 revolutions per mile for the new
This is about a 4' difference in the rotation of the two tires in 1 mile.

I bet if you went with some 225/50/16 potenza's you would get some pretty descent traction. And the handling would be better.
