Default jdm motors....

hey, as far as the specs go, I know the difference between the jdm h22's, but arent the reg ones coded h22a and the type-s also h22a? how would I tell if a place that was selling me supposed type-s motor wasnt just selling me a regular h22a? I dont know anything about the jdm motors as this will prolly be my first a lil ways down the line....thanks

64mm throttle body, versus (I believe) a standard 62mm VTEC Prelude throttle body, and the red valve cover of course.

are those the only ways to tell or is there something else? of course even if there was a diff. engine code they could stamp it differently or whatever....

VIN? check online... I know there is somewhere, that there is a list of what every part of the Honda VIN means... Um... In Japan they only say H22... they don't stamp it like H22a1 here in the US... stupid if you ask me. If the TB is 64mm, then it is a Type-S... I doubt someone would go through the time and trouble to buy a valve cover, TB, and install them both just to get a few extra bucks.

Why do you wan't the Type-S motor anyway?

oh.... no its not for right now anyways, its down the line, and its not someone, its a swap place, an its possible they could go through the trouble because they sell the reg h22a jdm for 1400 bucks motor only, and sell the type-s motor only for about a thousand bucks more, so for that much its worth it, but whyd you ask why I wanted the type-s, is it not worth it as opposed to a regular jdm h22? Im just keeping my options opened for way down the line, or if I see a good deal pick one up and put it on the side.....

You could buy a reg h22a for a lot cheaper than a type-s and use the rest of the money in mods and have a way better motor. The type-s is a cool engine but if you put stage 2 cams in a reg h22a you will get more horsepower for sure. And if you where planning on buying the ATTS tranny with it you should just keep yours and put LSD in it. Your car would kick ass!

the VIN on the block should contain "BB8" if it's a Type-S motor.
