Default supercharger questions

i have a 98 lude and i am thinking about getting a supercharger. what are some pros and cons with a supercharger compaired to a turbo. i am having a hard time finding a supercharger system that is set up for my car, i dont think i want to get one of the jackson racing type chargers. what kind of engine work should i do before i get the supercharger and what kind of gains would i see?

Don't go with the sc. just swap your motor with jdm engine then drop a turbo on it. superchargin ur current motor will give you a lot of problems unless you upgrade the internals which will cost you the same amount with the new jdm motor.

FI is FI, no matter if it's SC or turbo. SC will give you a flatter, more even powerband, turbo will give you more high end and can put out loads more boost than a SC. Each has its own pros and cons. I'd talk to someone who has a SC and another who has gone turbo and ask them how often they've had problems. You also need to ask yourself whether you want to boost the shit out of your car (turbo) of if you want moderate boost with less maintanance (SC).

JRSC are crap. I never understood superchargers on 4 cylinder cars. Yes, the powerband is more consistent but the power it robs from the crank plus the lack of intercooler is enough to turn me off. I don't like gaining 80 hp from the FI just to have 20 of it stolen right back from the SC pulley. Turbos don't have as much of a consistent powerband but the gains will always be more than a supercharger and they are driven off waste energy instead of stealing it.

The JRSC is about the only one you will find for your car, so if you don't like it, there are tons of turbo kit options out there that will run you less than a supercharger because you can build your own and you will get more of a hp gain.

I've always felt the main difference between the two was lag. With a turbo, you have to wait for it to spool up, but once it does, there is a shit load of power to be had. On a supercharger, however, the power is on demand, no waiting, but limited. Superchargers are also more reliable and from what I hear, boost your gas mileage by over 30%. Which never made sense to me.. if you're trying to make your car fast, who gives a damn about gas mileage. Considering price and power, turbo is the only way to go in my opinion. H22As can even run on 6 or 7 PSI stock I believe. But in the end, the choice is yours... You better just make the right one!

Yes, alot of what my opinions are have already been stated, for one, turboing a JDM engine wont be any differant than sc a usdm one, PSI in the cylinder is PSI. No differance and both engines are open deck engines that dont like boost without a sleeve or reinforcement. And also if you want boost on a four banger turbo is better, no pulley to rob power and intercoolers and made for a reason, although SC can have intercoolers if its centrifical, not JRSC style. Either way honda is an all motor company so show some pride and keep it N/A.

Supercharger is a very good drag set up but if your planning on a built/road race car where you launch from a roll, go turbo! Plus you get the sweet satisfaction of an intercooler and loud ass BOV. One of my buddies just got his 97 'lude back from SCi Motorsports here in San Antonio. Fully built CUSTOM turbo system, TiAL BOV, Custom I/C, .60 A/R Precision Turbo! It looks and sounds amazing!!! One of the very few well built Prelude systems in Texas!!! 5psi=300hp! On a JDM H22A, Pulleys, Adj. Cam Gears!!!

Tial BOV sound really sick, my friends brother has a 1991 Eclipse GSX with about 750 at the wheels, no im not exagerating, and no, of course since its a DSM it currently isnt running . But it has a tial and HKS race gate, sounds like a really pissed of rattle snake. Yes that is a good thing about superchargers is you have more power at low RPM but keep in mind that in a Honda once you get going your only at a low RPM once.
