Default apex vafc

just got an apexi vafc off the streets.... owner told me not to change the settings cause his settings made his civic(swap gsr w/ basic bolt ons) pull hard on 2nd and 3rd...but i was wondering if his settings would have a good or bad effect on my 99 lude considering that his settings was for a civic/ gsr. would it even matter?... i havent installed it yet...thought i get more info oh and plus i heard that the lude's 0bd2 ecu will throw a check engine light if vafc was installed...is that true?????
any info would help

what works for someone else's engine will not necessarily work for yours. Esp across platforms like that. the best thing to do is get it dyno tuned. it costs money, but you have to pay to play. Without a wideband O2 sensor, whatever fuel/VTEC adjustments you make on a VAFC will be inconsistent and potentially dangerous to your engine. some people road tune, but keep in mind that these are very experienced tuners who know what they are doing and have lots of experience with a particular engine, Fuel Management setup, and set of mods. It's always better to dyno tune anyway, it's just that it costs more.

about the CEL, if it's installed right, there isn't an issue with an OBD2 ECU.

EDIT: READ What monkey said... He beat me to it...

I personally would not run my car with someone elses settings, if you do install it get it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing... every car is different and you don't want to mess around with the wrong settings...

On the check engine issue, I've never heard of it, mine does not throw any codes although I did install a workaround switch...

you only have to convert to obd1 if you're using hondata or a similiar ems not with a vafc.

to jonsuper7, what mods do you have that make you feel you need a vafc?
