Default weird engine noises!!!!

i have a slight tapping noises when im idling----could that mean its time for a valve adjustment...also sometimes when i rev i get a whistling sound....i thought it was the stock airbox but then i put in my v2 and the damn noise is still there...sometimes it goes away but it always comes back. its a '00 5spd by the way

I has similar problem and it was the timing belt and tensioner. It was expensive fix.

its not unheard of for the tbelt and tensioner to make some noise for the first oil change after they are replaced.

Try adjusting the valves, they are easy to do anyway. Couldn't hurt.

As for the whistling, most aftermarket intakes whistle. It is strange that your stock airbox was whistling, did you remove the resonator?

no mine is like a very quiet tapping noise when im idling....when i pull the lude out of the garage, i get out to close the garage door, when i get back to the drivers door i can hear the tappin...gotta listen for it tho...so it could be only at first startup...it might go away after the engine warms up...gotta check...ill prob adjust my valves...but wat bothers me more is the damn whistling...i hate it...any ideas wat it could be??? i did remove the resonator

it's your timing belt...it's just tight, it will go away slowly (whistling sound I mean)

the tapping noise is 90% chance of being your valves, if it increases with RPM and turns into more of a banging then its one of your CR bearings failing...most likely your valve lash needs to be adjusted. I bought the special tool from snap-on to hold the adjustment while tightening the locknut.
