Default Quick K-x high ISO attempt

I don't have a ton of light in my living room. My cat was sitting still so I figured I'd try and get a picture of him.

Vivitar 55mm f/2.8 macro, ISO 6400, f/2.8, 1/20 sec, slight bit of tweaking exposure and NR in ACR but not much.

Pretty dang decent for ISO 6400, obviously there's noise but it's a usable picture. With the IS and high ISO can get available light shots in really low light.

Looks soft but better than anything I take above 800 iso.

Hey Vin, how can I get away from the grainy stuff at high iso? Would my 6 mega pixels be the major culprit?

Is your cat possessed? His/her eyes are glowing.

I'd guess it's soft partly from NR and partly because the lens was wide open.

The catchlight on his eyes is because I had the tv on.

Here's some more low light high ISO shots from a guy on pentaxforums' blog:

you cant lol what are you using a 20d, 30d? the cameras unfortunately are old now and they were never great at a high iso i mean you can get away with it, but it wont be as clean as all the new cameras that go higher then 1600 iso. so if you want a fix for it, well your going to have to buy a new cam lol

pretty sure len has the same body as me Nikon d70 and he is right. I dread using iso 800. forget about going above 800. which is why I want one of the new full frame sensor body and keep the d70 for outdoor shooting where it excels

Oh werd? I thought he had a canon body weird lol. Truthfully I have never had need to go higher then 800. Even at some events I cover and its dark I never go past 800. All the shots from the bboy event I took back in nov that I have posted where shot at a 800 iso

I've found it necessary when taking pics of a young toddler, specially one that is very mobile. I can't really lower the shutter speed since he is moving around so my only choice is add more light (I don't have) or bump the ISO and open up the lens more...

With the d700 I can simply go 3200-6400 ISO and still end up with very good pics. I wouldn't dare go above 800 ISO with the d70. it's not too pretty :hs: I used to use a flash but he gets scared and just freezes. not the kind of pics I want to take. But it's an easily solved problem IMO. I'll just throw money in the form of a full frame body at it :chuckles:
