I did manually focus some, which is why it's probably off. It's hard to see the focus through the viewfinder sometimes.

You buy a nice camera...youre buying the features of the camera...let it auto-focus.

I looked at the pictures and didn't want to point out that the ones of the tree were OOF but looks like everyone else beat me to it. h:

MF with an AF camera is kinda tricky. The lenses are harder to focus precisely because the focus rings don't have much resistance and don't have long travel, and the focusing screens don't have a split-screen to help you guage the focus.

Better to manually select an AF point and hope for the best.

Bert.. When you MF, hold the shutter half way down. when you're in focus, the focus point will flash red.

yeah, but sometimes in low light the lens will hunt and cant make the choice. thats when you kick it down to MF and force the option.

canon models don't have low light focus assist light on the flash?

if the light is so low that the auto focus can't focus then you should be using a flash anyways.
