Still experimenting w/ the umbrellas in the studio, and I also use my 580EX to help when needed. I need some higher wattage bulbs (they are constant-on, non strobes)....as it is now, i have to bring out the brightness in Lightroom a bit, which I don't like.

I have a lot more experience w/ natural light and how to do post-processing - so that helps a lot too!

What do you use for studio lights?

shit can the hot lights, thats whats fucking you up. and just use the 580 with a shoot through umbrella. i use speedotron brownline strobes 2 of them, with shoot through umbrellas or just by them selfs. what are your settings? the combo of using both hot lights and the one strobe is whats giving you that flat look. remember that when shooting with lights speed controls the ambient light "hot lights" and your f stop controls your flash lighting. you can combine both but its a bitch to get right, much easier to use one or the other.

like the pictures i just posted, those are with just one strobe right behind her.

 

Gotcha. I've actually been working on splitting it up. I use the hots alone w/ the 50mm 1.8. or am bouncing the strobe through an umbrella or off a reflector.

As to settings, it completely varies in fstop. ISO requires 400-800 w/o the strobe depending on what i'm doing. shutter is roughly 1/100 - 1/250 most of the time

 

werd, and just one more tip learn how to give direction it will save your life!!! take a modeling class or watch alot of top model. im not kidding, your going to have tons of people who are just going to stand in front of your camera and wait for you to pose them. i have actually been giving posing work shops, showing models how to pose properly and showing them what works with there body type ect..

i know what you were trying to go for here but it didnt come out quite like you wanted. its all about her head positioning some of them are too low and some are way to high and not at the right angle.
