Default 1st time shooting the Moon

So after browsing some photography forums, I got semi-inspired to take a picture of the moon (original, right?). I know it's been done billions of times, but not by this guy! Haha. So anyway, here are the details:

Nikon D5100
Nikkor 70-300mm (non-VR, no autofocus, so I manually focused best I could)
f/11
1/250
ISO 1000
Auto white balance (still learning)
Monopod instead of Tripod (felt like I had more control)

I think it turned out fairly well, not too soft or blurry. Any constructive criticism is welcome, thanks!

I made another attempt at it tonight with some minor changes:

f/8
1/400
ISO 200
Tripod

It's a little darker but I think the detail is much greater

Whoa, both photos are great in their own right. Great work!
