If we do it now, maybe we will save some environmental damage, not to mention the fact that we can become less reliant on the Middle East.

Blaming the big three automakers would make more sense. Since they used light truck rules to sell damn near everyone in America an SUV. They used this rule to bypass CAFÉ standards on fuel economy. So if you see someone driving an SUV bitching about the price of gas, beat them with their gas nozzle at the pump.

the fact that oil is there does not mean we can use it... oil is often trapped in rocks / other shit and is nearly impossible to get into the form we can use.
and yes, we need to focus on getting other sources of energy up and running.

We don't use oil strictly for energy, we use it as petroleum in a billion different daily products. What do you think your lip gloss is made out of? What do you think your shampoo is made out of? What do you think your lotions and sun screens are made out of?...imagine the millions of people that reside in this country....now imagine the billions of products that companies sell.
Unless you strictly buy organic, you can't tell me that oil can quickly become obsolete. And if you strictly buy organic, I'm sure you love spending double and/or triple the cost for products refined by companies that use petroleum.
...and I'm sorry, but I'm not putting alcohol on my skin or up to my lips unless it's gettin me drunk.
