NFL 2006 outlook
with the NFL combine coming up, draft day, and a HUGE batch of free agents ... this should make for an interesting off season.
1. who will be drafted #1, 2, & 3?
2. what player could make an impact at the combine? Remember, (Urlacher was a good player, but his combine stats put his stock though the roof)
3. where will Cullpepper end up? He's as good as gone from the Vikings. They're looking to dump his salary more than getting equal value.
4. Ricky Williams tested positive for an illegal substance again. If found guilty, it's a 1 year suspension. Thoughts?
5. The FA class includes QB's such as Brees, Kitna, and Pennington ... don't forget the ultra utility man, Randel-El.
Comments?

Rey Lewis is about to go ... Ty Law was cut yesterday.
Rumors in Chicago are rampant about the Bears and Law ... they need a stud cornerback and he fits the profile perfectly. They're still heavily after Randal-El too.

1. Bush, Young, Leinart (sp?)
2. Don't know many College Players
3. Culpepper will stay...depending on his injury. If he's 99%, he'll remain the starter until he fucks up big time. But I don't expect him to play full games for the first 2-3 games
4. Ricky Williams needs to be banned from the NFL...too much drama.

no labor agreement = 95M salary cap for 2006's season. Some of your favorite stars will get cut tomorrow by 4pm EST.
Because of this, 2007 is set to have NO salary cap ... just like the MLB. Thoughts?

The NFL does a few things to keep "small market teams" competitive.
- Revenue is shared thoughout the league funding all teams equally.
- Owners have a salary minimum and maximum to spend. No matter what, everyone is around the same payroll.
(from ESPN AM's Mike & Mike)
From Superbowl 1 though 27, 19 teams have played in the biggest game.
From Superbowl 28 though 40, 18 teams have played in the biggest game.
Free agency and the salary cap was installed around Superbowl 27. This just shows that the system works. It keeps everyone into the game and you never know what team will end up on top.
Now look at Baseball.
Teams are in financial ruin (Tampa Bay, KC, etc)
Owners dismantle teams and take all the past revenue for their personal spending (Marlins)
Teams over spend and put together all-star teams (NY Yankees, NY Mets)
Teams work within a budget they can afford and never succeed (Brewers, Pirates, etc)
There are 8 teams in their playoff system ... you always know 4 teams that are going to be there. (Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, and Braves)
