Hmmm...I wonder where all that money to keep social security going until 2053 went?

Killing people is so much more awesome than fiscal responsibility.

we could start by elminating benefits that weren't originally intended to be given by SS... for instance if you're under 18 and a parent passes away, you get a SS check until you turn 18. then there are education benefits. same goes if you have a disabled parent.
also, if i work until im 65 and my wife never works a day in her life, when i retire she gets a SS check for half of my benefits. having never worked or contributed, she still gets SS.
those are just 2 examples of how we are spending more than we should be....

To fix it we need a combination of increased social security tax, increased amount of payroll to tax, raising of the retirement age, decrease of benefits, ability to privatize some of your social security payments.

Social Security was an excellent idea when it was first developed. But it was proposed and placed into affect when the economy was, by today's standers, crawling. The economy of today is far to progressive to justify it's cause for SS. We have no idea of where we will be in 40, 50 years from now and I can only imagine the interest of what a dollar, from today, will be worth in 40, 50 years. If we can privatize that dollar, imagine it's value and expectations the day that you retire?
The only problem, who handles those accounts and what will this cost? Bush actually had a vision that makes sense...I'm taking a big swig of my cocktail as I type that...
I type this and I'm feeling uneasy. In most cases, I feel that tax dollars should be a universal benefit. But in this case, maybe it's something that allows SS to survive even though some will loose out.
