Default scam or not?

I've this dilemma and didnt know where to post this. I felt it'd get better attention with the teg owners. Anyways... on eBay there was this sweet set of rims + tires without reserve. But the auction stated that only "approved" bidders could bid and I had to email them to get approved.

I do so but instead of getting approved, they reply offering to just sell them to me. At this point, the auction has disappeared and I offer a lowball amount through email and they say that its fine.

I start getting suspicious and ask for the typical "picture w/ signed newspaper" and they dont reply my email. I send them further emails and they finally reply with a one-liner "we dont have a digital camera"...

what should I do? They have a website up with their contact info (UK). They also offered to do the trade via some sort of "safe ebay trade" where ebay offers insurance or something like that.

If you're still here, let me know what you think, I'm really wondering because it was an insane deal and they seem legit sometimes while not another...

If they won't use a middleman trading program, don't do it.

It costs a little more, but you will get your stuff and the other people get the money only after the middleman company gets the wheels and inspects them.

Their site is been up and theres no reports of scams online but oh well... like they say "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

i'd stay away, just checked the website and doesnt work. and when you send emil requesting more info and they dont reply then somethings wrong. most legit people i bought stuff from on ebay provided more info on request. i once was looking for a notebook on ebay and when asked for more info where they are and any other payment methods they accepted (the auction said western union only which should bring up a red flag) they never replied and had many other auctions that were similar with new ID names and no feedback.
