Rattling noise in exhaust
HI guys i got the 95 teggy rs and i have this crazy rattling noise in the exhaust, ive been wanting to change the exhaust system but i keeep putting it off, do you guys know if that might effect the engine somehow, cause when i rbing the rpms right at abouyt 3.1k it makes this weird ass noise and then goes away after that, and when i am idle or press the gass a bit it rattles like crazy. Will that harm the engine or anything in any way? cause i heard that if you leave it like that for a while it could affect the engine.
Thanks

if the noise is actually "in" the exhaust system, it shouldnt hurt your engine. i would say the most that could happen is that something inside your cat or muffler could collapse and cause a restriction....hell it could even open up the flow too.....
but the other guy here is right i think. take something like a wooden dowel and poke on your exhast (while the engine is running), in particular the silver sheets of metal clamped to the exhaust pipe(heat shields). these things are notorious for coming loose at one end and vibrating like crazy. if the noise lessens or quits when you touch a spot, you have found your problem, now all you have to do is find a way to clamp the shield "firmly" back to the exhaust pipe. i tried a hose clamp, but it came loose a million times, maybe a metal zip tie? anyone else have suggestions?

Arent the B-pipes (between the exhaust manifold and cat) on DC Tegs double-walled?
If so, it's not unheard of for a weld to fail between the two pipes, causing the inner pipe to rattle. It happened on my last car.
Just a thought.

Umm... OK... first, make sure it isn't a heat shield. Then, if you can't find a rattling heat shield, it's most likely the B-pipe of the exhaust manifold... not part of a cat-back system. The simplest fix would be to get some headers...

Yea sounds just like your heat shield!!!
I just took care of the same thing on mine.
I had the same prob, rattling at idle and then really loud rattle around 3k or so and then it would be gone.
Take a look under your car and look above and below your cat.,
chances are it rusted off at the mount points on one side and is just rattling up and down onto the cat.!
Just unscrew that shield if so and youll be set!
