Default Wheel Bearing... and hub?

Alright so my car passed inspection but my mechanic said that my rear wheel bearing is getting pretty bad... actually he said that he wouldn't drive on it if his life depended on it, so anyways its pretty bad and I was just going to do it myself so I broke out my best friend the Haynes manual and it said that the wheel bearing on integras are one with the hub and by separating them you break an important seal and its best to replace both. The hub is under pressure and I'm a backyard mechanic who often  doesn't realize what hes getting into.
1) Is the whole hub/bearing thing true?
2) How hard is this job?
3) How much to have an honest :naughty: mechanic do it?
Thanks in advanced: you guys have never led me wrong.

1) yes it's true. for the rear, the bearing is integrated into the hub, so it comes as a single unit. they are a bit expensive ~170$.

It is one unit, which makes it easier on you to replace.

Its not difficult at all. The hardest obstacle will be removing the stupid rotor retaining screws, which I recommend you drill out, as theyre not needed anyway and only get in the way in the future.

Cake install...try and pick one up at a junkyard, just make sure its in good shape (feel the bearing, make sure its totally smooth...there is a feel to it). The part is pricey from Acura...a generic one will run you about $100...and one from a wrecked car...maybe $15.

real quick, does your car make a high pitched sound every now and then from the side where the bearing is loose?

ok well i talked to a honda engineer and he said to jack the car up on the side where you hear the sound, see if you can wiggle the wheel. and if the wheel is not tight, then it is the hub thingy.

im installing my header on wed. and gonna be putting it up on a lift so i can check then to see if its loose. hopefully its j/ breaks
