Dual Coil Coilovers. Any thoughts?
Has anyone installed Dual Coil Coilovers on there car? I am very insterested in finding out if they help or not and if they help, how?
The springs I am talking about are the ones with 2 perches and 2 coils. The first coil is very soft and can be compressed by hand pretty easily. The second spring is a pretty stiff (400-450 for the fronts).
I have heard a few people comment about them but the comments seem to contradict themselves. I have heard people say that it gives a much better ride because the soft spring cusions any small imperfections in the road and that at highway speed the car lifts thereby enabling the soft spring to decompress and cusion any small highway bumps/cracks. However, I have also heard people say that The soft spring is there to keep the coilover aligned and to stop it from jumping side to side and damaging the shock and that the soft coil is so soft that the weight of the car compresses it totaly and so it does nothing but keep a constant pressure on the top and bottom for the shock so that the coil stays aligned. If the soft coil is compleatly compressed, it would not do anything for the comfort.
So, does anyone have these spring installed? Have any pictures of what the soft spring looks like with the weight of the car on it? Any info would be very helpful . I also sell these spring and would love to be able to tell my customers of the benifits of thses springs (if there are any).
Please, if you have some friend of a friend story or some 2000$ suspention on your car and would like an opportunity to tell us how great it is to have money... go post somewhere else.. I really would appreciate any non-biased reveiw of these types of coilovers...
thx

The helper springs you refer to help keep the main spring in place when the suspension is at full extension. They are needed because many height-adjustable coilover setups use fairly short main springs. Dead coils on a progressive rate normal spring do essentially the same thing.
