Default Carsound Cat Problem...help

Hey guys,

Just last night, I was driving somewhat hard (shifting at about 5500) and now my cat has this rattling inside of it.

This morning I crawled under the car and shook it to see what it was, and there sounds like a piece of the catalytic material broke off or something.

I haven't taken off the cat yet (and don't want too cause it's a pain in the ass). But what do you guys think?

I have the carsound 94005 2.25" high flow universal cat with flanges welded on. The rattling is farely loud. Noticeable when you start moving but disappears at higher speeds. Possibly from the engine noise, but blipping the throttle rattles the cat and low speed shifts.

Please, any suggestions and help is appreciated.

Carsound cats are usually very reliable but part of it might have broken and now is stuck inside. Best bet is to take it off and isolate where the noise is coming from. Its not really that bad. Spring loaded bolts are kind of a pain in the ass tho especially when you're on your back in the garage.

Great, took it off and checked it out.

There's no broken weld, no metal jingling inside...

Turns out, like I said before, the freakin catalytic material is broken....Not small enough for me to get out the piece, and positioned in the middle of the two biggest pieces. So, I gotta call up carsound on monday to get a replacement. Hope they ship me one first so I can drive my car still. The cat still works, just a lot of rattling at lower rpms.

I guess the high flowing exhaust at 2500+ rpms pushes the cat pieces together.

Dammit! freakin high quality my ass...should've just put on the stock type r cat.

Mostly everybody on H-A.net likes the carsound cat, and people on Honda-tech.com like the Randomtech cat. Both have stories about the material breaking inside of them so what other hi-flow cat manufacturer can u trust?

Btw, keep us posted on getting a replacement. I'm pretty darn sure carsound won't cross ship (send you one first), but maybe if you give them your CC info they might. (cross your fingers)

Which part isn't true?

1.) There have been stories such as this one about the carsound breaking one way or the other. (unfortunately the database is gone from when H-A.net went down a few months ago). And have you forgotten about what drPheta just got done saying?

2.) try searching on Honda-tech.com and you will hear good and bad things about randomtech's.

Do you have 1st hand experience on the randomtech ones or do you work as a product tester at randomtechnology?

Do you have a carsound one?

And what's wrong with me having an opinion?

Carsound

Did you shake the cat and actually have it make that noise?
