So....

Your point is based on two wrongs making a right?

Get real man. Hes even doing exactly what youre implying he do by suggesting to people who run or plan on running test pipes to run a high flow cat instead. A GOOD highflow cat's flow rate will be almost as much as a testpipe.

And yeah, I am worried about the environment. I've spent the past three years of my life studying environmental policy and national law. Driving fast cars is my little fetish, if you will, but I do it responsibly.

Pollution is an inevitable fact of modern living, but if you _can_ do something to limit it, especially something considerate and not that expensive.

Anyways, a good high-flow cat will flow better than most mufflers. In fact, at MOST you'll get something like 1 HP from running a test pipe over a good high-flow cat. You'd probably get more HP in switching from platinum to copper sparkplugs or using 5w30 oil over 10w30...

so.......

wheres ur point, i run a carsound cat, people run testpipes for their own reasons. just remember that a cat has a honeycomb filter and a testpipe is just a straight pipe. yes a good cat will flow probably as good as a testpipe but it will be still restrictive. the more mods you do the more restrictive the cat will hurt you. its just like trying to run a small 2.25inch collector/downpipe and bpipe when trying to run big cams or turbo.

so what? i made 16whp on my kamikaze 4-1 with testpipe on my JRSC ITR. but now since im doing all motor im running a modded smsp carsound cat.

pollution is part of life, like i said most cars at the track run open exhaust and straight pipes. do u think they are worried about pollution?? i would like for you to ask some of the NHRA mechanics to run a cat and see what they will tell you.

i could care less if u run a testpipe or a cat, ive ran both.

Good for you.

Your argument is still based on two wrongs making a right. You are still wrong.

And now your contradicting yourself...you say a "good cat will probably flow as good as a testpipe, but it will still be restrictive." What????

We can do this all day man, Im not trying to be an ass, but youre saying that it doesnt matter about a test pipe being bad for the environment, everyone uses em so why not use them? Not a kosher argument.

Besides the fact that if a cop ever pulls you over and happens to want to get down on his knees and check your fartcan exhaust system...depending on your state youre looking at an impounded car and thousands in fines.

Well, there's a big difference between running a test pipe and open header on the strip("for those 10 seconds or less, I'm free...to pollute the environment") or race track versus on a car I'm going to be driving 30-40 miles every single day.

I think the ungodly sound of a test pipe is incentive enough to invest in a carsound. h:

Think about the millions of millions of vehicles registered in this country, and then think about what percentage of them have ever seen a racetrack. Not many. Race cars aren't street legal.

In basically any Honda application you can get a plenty big enough cat to meet your flow requirements. Slapping a test pipe on a basically stock motor is just stupid--it doesn't make any more power than a good high flow cat, your car will stink, not be street legal, throw an oxygen sensor code, and spew a bunch of nasty hydrocarbons.

Lets compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges here. "Race cars", for the most part, use alcohol, not gasoline as a fuel. Burning alcohol creates little or none of the noxious fumes gasoline does. This is the reason racers dont use them and why the rest of us do. We burn gas, we use cats. So this whole thread argument has been MOOT.

So given the original question, as to which catalyst is best...I have never used an aftermarket cat, yet. But I have bought OBX components, notably a muffler and short shifter. The muffler was alegedy Stainless steel...it rusted. The Shifter was...cheap as hell, and felt it. OBX, as far as I can tell, buys crappy products from asian sweatshops, then packages them in a shiny package, and sells them for ten times what they are worth. I will never buy another OBX component.

run a regular cat during normal daily driving and a straightpipe at the track... that is what im thinkb=n... and seince my car is obd and doesn't have a o2 sensor in the cat i don't have to worry about throwing codes.... right?
