Check Engine Light
i know check engine lights are a common problem but i have it now.
i just installed a new racing cat and CAI on my 02'gsr and the check engine light has been coming on every once in a while. my friend told me it might be the CAI if theres a problem with too much air going in. any advice and help, cuz so far i just disconnect the battery and it goes away for a while, and i dont want to keep doing this over and over.

02 gs-r? :eh: there's no such thing.
like jim said, definitely don't keep clearing it. obviously something is up if you're getting the CEL. check the codes and see what it is. here's how: http://www.bseries.net/html/garage/engcode.php

AutoZoned or someplace like that will read the code for you for free. Just get them to tell you the actual code number, not just their guess for what's wrong. Then come back & tell us the number.

yeh sorry about that 02' post, weird, its a 2000 and i guess i put it backwards. my friend that drives an is3000 swears its my CAI but i also think its my cat, when it was installed. so i guess ill call around and see who can check the code for me.
but also, how would i go about fixing this and how much if i bring it into a shop?, do i need an o2 similator?

Here's my guess.
The two O^2 sensors [before & after cat] are either confused, or one isn't working properly. Though it seems too soon for an oxygen sensor to wear out.. :dunno:
 Has your MPG plummeted?
Is it possible for the two set of wires to be plugged in wrong-way round (the after cat sensor accidentally plugged into the the pre-cat sensor's harness or vice versa)?
The code number will help for sure.

You can check the code number yourself. Its easy with a paper clip and a chart. Lemme search more for that method. I cant remember the specifics. If someone finds it before me or remembers how to do it please post.

i bet its a code for the second O2 sensor cycling too fast. and i bet the light comes on after you have been on the highway for a little bit. if that is the case, the only way to fix it is to install a cat.
