Check Engine Light

it does come on after i drive on the freeway for a while. i just got a racing cat installed and a CAI installed. my friend(mechanic) said maybe its my CAI b/c i have some generic version that cost me 100$. he said to just put the ram intake on and see if it comes on. i want to test it but i know little or nothing about how and what to do after. are there places that anybody knows of that tests it for free?

i confused now... so i shouldn't test with a paperclip as stated in this website recommended by inspyron(sorry if wrong spelling).

im gonna try swapping my ram intake back in and see if it comes up again, but should i take it into a shop and how much would they charge if any to look at it, im just worried my mpg will go down and i get internal damage on my nice nice nice car.

I'm not sure, but I guess shorting the connector like c-speedracing describes still works in OBD-II cars. Try that & tell us how the CEL flashes. Long is 10, short is 1, if there's more than one code stored, there's a long pause between them. This is a different number vs. the Pnnnn code, but either way it's better than guessing.
Quit guessing because it's easy enough to read the code, either of the ways I just said. There's about a hundred different things that it MIGHT be, and just 'cause one guy had trouble with his cat or somebody else had trouble with his O2 sensor, you won't know until you read the code.

I just put an AEM CAI on my 2000 GSR last night and am not throwing a CEL. I drove it for a while on the highway to test it out and nothing happened. What racing CAT did you have installed? I would ask the guys that did it if they can check everything again such as the O2 sensors to make sure they are hooked up correctly. But definately go to Auto Zone and find out the code...you can't beat anything that is free. It only costs $0.00:thumbup:

k ill go to autozone down the street and ask them to test and give me the codes, and ill either post the codes for u guys to help me orsee what they have to say. so many times i cant tell if a mechanic is helping me or just cheating me?!?

i just found out that the ECL comes on b/c of the racing cat, not the CAI. is this rite? it happend to my friends car and he just ignored it and his car ran well for 70k and then it was stolen. so should i not worry about it b/c if it doesn't do anything bad ill just ignore the CEL.
